The State of Texas Attorney General Sues Tylenol Producers Over Autism Spectrum Claims

Judicial Action
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump who is running for US Senate, accused the drug companies of hiding safety concerns of Tylenol

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of acetaminophen, asserting the firms concealed potential risks that the drug presented to pediatric brain development.

The court filing comes thirty days after Donald Trump advocated an unsubstantiated connection between using acetaminophen - alternatively called acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

The attorney general is taking legal action against J&J, which once produced the drug, the only pain reliever suggested for expectant mothers, and the current manufacturer, which currently produces it.

In a official comment, he claimed they "betrayed America by making money from discomfort and marketing drugs ignoring the dangers."

The company asserts there is lacking scientific proof linking Tylenol to autism.

"These corporations deceived for years, deliberately risking countless individuals to increase profits," the attorney general, from the Republican party, said.

Kenvue commented that it was "seriously troubled by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the reliability of paracetamol and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its online platform, Kenvue also stated it had "continuously evaluated the applicable studies and there is no credible data that indicates a verified association between taking acetaminophen and autism."

Groups speaking for doctors and health professionals concur.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated acetaminophen - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to manage pain and fever, which can pose significant medical dangers if ignored.

"In over twenty years of studies on the consumption of paracetamol in gestation, no reliable research has conclusively proven that the usage of paracetamol in any period of gestation leads to neurological conditions in children," the organization stated.

This legal action mentions recent announcements from the Trump administration in claiming the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Last month, the former president raised alarms from medical authorities when he instructed pregnant women to "fight like hell" not to take acetaminophen when sick.

The FDA then issued a notice that physicians should think about restricting the usage of acetaminophen, while also mentioning that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in children has not been proven.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who oversees the FDA, had promised in April to initiate "a massive testing and research effort" that would establish the origin of autism in a short period.

But specialists warned that discovering a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the outcome of a complicated interplay of inherited and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of lifelong neurodivergence and condition that influences how persons experience and interact with the world, and is diagnosed using physician assessments.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - a Trump ally who is campaigning for the Senate - alleges Kenvue and J&J "intentionally overlooked and sought to suppress the science" around acetaminophen and autism.

The case seeks to make the companies "remove any marketing or advertising" that asserts acetaminophen is reliable for expectant mothers.

This legal action echoes the complaints of a assembly of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who sued the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

A federal judge rejected the case, declaring research from the parents' expert witnesses was not conclusive.
