The teenager has featured in seven games for Real Madrid, featuring five appearances in the starting lineup.

When an teenage creates Real Madrid history in a crucial European tie against Manchester City, it inevitably draws acclaim and attention.

In only his maiden start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the team - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the fifteen-time European champions claimed a three-nil last-16 first-leg advantage at the Bernabeu.

The teenager, who also made his Real debut in the play-off round a month ago with a substitute appearance at Benfica, then helped Los Blancos overcome the English Premier League side in the midweek second leg to secure a last eight berth.

Aged 18 years old, the midfielder was the club's youngest player to begin two matches in the Champions League knockout stages, beating Brazil forward Vini Jr's record by 10 days.

Rapid Ascent From The Academy

The midfielder is the latest to emerge from the club's academy and is quickly establishing himself as one of the manager's most promising young players.

He joined Real from CD Leganes in 2023, having previously been with Atletico Madrid and Getafe academies, and initially featuring for the Juvenil C team, where he rapidly created a positive impact.

Pitarch worked his way up to the reserve side and it was in a pre-season game in which they faced the senior squad, then coached by Arbeloa, where the youngster is said to have caught the attention of the current Real boss, who took over from the previous coach in January.

Spanish media would later label the moment as "love at first sight," adding Pitarch stood out not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, character and drive he brought to the side.

'His Greatest Quality Is His Character'

In the pre-season of 2025, former boss Xabi Alonso invited the youngster to train with the first team and awarded him minutes in pre-season.

Yet, it was Arbeloa's appointment that became the turning point in his career as he came on as a late substitute in both ties against the Portuguese side that set up the meeting with Pep Guardiola's team.

"I have dreamed of this every night before going to bed, the very first time I began playing the game, each day you go to train and each day you have a game," stated the player following his debut.

"I have just fulfilled my ambition with the greatest club in the world and in the top tournament."

Handed a first start in the Spanish league against his former club - where he spent four years after moving from Atleti in 2018 - he has kept his spot for the following four as injuries to Bellingham and Dani Ceballos created an opportunity.

The teenager has taken it with performances that have defied his youth and inexperience.

"He is a extremely fast player, and you can observe what he's capable of," remarked the coach. "He's incredibly dynamic, with excellent endurance, work-rate and mobility."

Pitarch's mentality has also impressed his manager.

"His standout trait is his personality," added he. "He constantly demands the possession, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I understand fans might be astonished to watch him start in a European fixture, but he is selected because I had total trust in him to do his normal game.

"Thiago will continue to get chances with the main squad. It's a pleasure to have a player like him."

A Future International Decision

Born in Fuenlabrada, in the Spanish capital's community, and was raised deeply involved in the local game, progressing through youth setups before entering Real Madrid's famous La Fabrica system.

He holds both Moroccan and Spanish nationality, offering him the choice to represent both nations at the highest level.

Under international regulations, players may appear for multiple nations at youth level without being permanently tied, with the final decision only binding once they play in a official full international.

He has played for the Spanish national team at youth level, representing both the under-19 and under-20 sides, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where Spain reached the last eight.

Despite this, he has not yet decided to either full national side, who are monitoring his progress with interest.

Speaking recently, the player confirmed: "I haven't made my ultimate choice so far. My situation is positive with the Spanish federation, but I will reach a conclusion soon."

His situation echoes that of other bi-national talents such as Real team-mate Brahim Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. While teenage Lamine chose La Roja, Brahim opted to represent Morocco.

Focus on the Future

For now, Pitarch's focus is on establishing himself in the Madrid lineup and rewarding his manager's belief.

He featured for 74 minutes in the two-one win at the Etihad, which completed a 5-1 overall triumph and a quarter-final tie with the German champions.

His substitution by fellow youth graduate in Angel to emphasise Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to aid the club chase future success.

After his impressive impact so far on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is expected to play a key role in that.

"Arbeloa treats me the identical way. We deal with it very naturally. I attempt not to think about it too much - I have to deserve my minutes on the field," he said following the success at Etihad Stadium.
