Homages Flow for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt able to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can now express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced passing more hours together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the film, adding that he doesn't recollect "a single day without laughter".
"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a distinct tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with the cast, and he understood the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles court official decided to bar the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order put a embargo on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Aftermath and Reactions
After the killings, public figures shared varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making controversial claims that were widely condemned by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors last week. Speaking on his program, Rogan described the remarks as "disturbing" and implied they showed a concerning deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an adviser ought to have acted when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
