A Ton of Japanese Animation Updates Landed During the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of pursuits much better than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not yelling at loved ones. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items came out during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they are probably mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
